- TIPO is expanding the range of examination services for design patents, including options for accelerated examination and simultaneous adjustment of the deferred examination period for design patents:
- Accelerated examination: Applicants that meet one of the three criteria (Third party commercial exploitation, Design has been recognized by prestigious international or national design awards, or Applications from new startup enterprises) are eligible to receive examination results within two months of submitting a complete application:
- Deferred Examination: Regardless of whether priority rights are claimed, the deferred examination period will now uniformly be set within one year from the application date.
- In view of the relaxation of the requirement to submit six-sided views for design patent applications in the 2020 revision, in order to accommodate the diverse visual representations in design patent applications, a revised version has been prepared with updates and certain content modifications.
