The Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (“the TIPO” hereinafter) has piloted the "Proactive Patent Examination Pilot Program for Start-up Industries" ("the Program" hereinafter) in 2024. The program will expire on December 31, 2024. To promote the intellectual property deployments of start-ups, the TIPO has revised the program.
 
In the revised program, in addition to the start-up companies that have been established for less than eight years in the original program, the companies with innovative R&D capabilities that have won national awards within two years and the companies that have been mentored by the enforcement units entrusted by the TIPO will be eligible for requesting the program. According to the revised program, the patent applications filed by the eligible companies will be granted within 4 months after requesting the program.
 
The revised program will take effective from January 1, 2025.
